Challenge: Spark a memory. This is the handle of a flat-edged baking knife that belonged to my mom. I have very few things that were hers and I treasure this knife. I owe my love of baking to her. When I pick up this knife, I am transported back to the kitchen I grew up in, she is standing next to me and we are baking together again. Tearing up as I write this... I miss her so much. I am so glad I have this knife.

Challenge: Sacrifice. I went into town (Colonial Williamsburg) today to watch the Memorial Day program honoring American Revolution and Civil War veterans. It was a wonderful service that included wreaths laid, volleys fired, and a procession by the Fifes and Drums. I took over 50 photos - this was one of my favorites.

Challenge: Night Sky. We had the opportunity to go down to Norfolk today to hang out with some friends who were passing through on their sailboat. Lovely people we met about 7 years ago when we started cruising. It was a very pleasant day and it also happened to be the best I've felt in almost a week now. Anyway, we stayed into the late evening, mostly to visit and enjoy their company, with the added benefit of a beautiful night and the view of the Norfolk skyline from across the Elizabeth River. This shot was done with my newest lens (and recent birthday gift from my husband and son), a Canon 10-22 mm ultra wide angle. I LOVE this lens.

Challenge: Purple/edible. Reshoot. I picked up some eggplants for a dinner this weekend and thought I'd take another stab at this prompt. This is a commentary on my week. The top photo is me waiting at the doctor's office for the 3rd time this week. The bottom is my loaner car that I've had since Monday, as mine has a major (read: expensive) pump failure 5000 miles out of warranty. This week can't get much worse. Who has time to take pictures when crap happens...? At least I continued my project. I am happy about that even if I'm not pleased with the photos.

Off prompt today. We attended a memorial service at a marina in Maryland today. This was where we started our lives as cruisers. Today we said "fair winds and calm seas" to a wonderful friend. He always wore a smile or silly face and he is missed by so many. This was a beautiful tribute to an amazing person.
